Time to Celebrate

The time is finally here, Mint Julep season! The Kentucky derby is a great way for friends and family to come together to watch the race and enjoy a cocktail or two! The Kentucky Derby takes place on Saturday May 7th at the historic Churchill Downs.

The Old Forester Mint Julep is the Official Drink of the Kentucky Derby, and today we are going to make one together! We hope to actually attend The Kentucky Derby one year, but for now we will be enjoying it from home!

Recommended Pairing for this blog:

The Kentucky Derby is not the only race you should be watching on the 7th.

Turtle Derby

The Federal government suspended horse racing in 1945 as World War II was coming to a close. As an alternative, the Kentucky Turtle Derby was born. $411,483 in bets were raised and given to the Kentucky Society for Crippled Children.  The turtle races slowed down in the 1950’s but in 2020 that changed. Many sports were put on hold due to Covid-19, but the Kentucky Turtle Derby returned.

Although when you think of Mint Juleps you usually think of the Kentucky Derby, they can be enjoyed all year round. I especially enjoy them in spring and summer as a nice refreshing drink to enjoy in the sun.
